Nimbula Unveils the First Cloud Operating System Able to Run Geographically Distributed Clouds - August 15, 2011
Mountain View, CA – August 15, 2011 – Nimbula, the Cloud Operating System Company, today introduced Nimbula Director 1.5, the newest release of its cloud operating system that helps enterprises and service providers build powerful private, hybrid and public cloud infrastructure.
Nimbula Director abstracts the underlying technology to present a coherent view of a completely automated compute and storage cloud. Providing a one-stop virtual data center management solution, Nimbula Director isolates customers from the operational and hardware complexity associated with deploying a private or public cloud.
With version 1.5, Nimbula Director is now capable of supporting a geographically distributed cloud, an industry first. The software can manage many geographic locations of a multi-site cloud from a single view. This dramatically improves the cloud experience for end users as they now have a single login from which they can access any resource world-wide and deploy their workloads to any site in a self-service manner.
In addition to executing on the core vision of a global cloud, Nimbula has delivered critical functionality for taking Nimbula Director clouds into production and ensuring simple and efficient operations.
- Policy based automation for compute and storage that delivers end users an extremely simple mechanism for requesting resources of particular capabilities while also allowing cloud administrators to manage tiers of service, set asides for particular tenants and the permissions to govern access accordingly.
- Groundbreaking storage management functionality that combines the self-service end user experience of Amazon’s Elastic Block Storage (EBS) with the quality of service management expected from enterprise software as well as the choice of dozens of storage vendors.
- Simplicity with flexiblity. Nimbula Director now allows cloud administrator to package up a choice of operating systems, such as RHEL6, along with drivers and management software to create a customized basis for their own cloud. Unlike with other systems, this addition of choice does not complicate operations. Nimbula Director’s zero-touch install still automates deployment of these customized packages so that users can grow a Nimbula powered cloud as fast as they can rack the machines.
"We have been working hand in hand with our customers as they deploy Nimbula Director and developed the new release based on their feedback and the new functionality they requested," said Willem van Biljon, Co-Founder and VP of Products at Nimbula. "At the same time, we have been advancing the product around scalability, automation, and security which are central to our vision, and we’re continuing to aggressively innovate so that our customers can build clouds for a wider range of uses and applications."
The Nimbula team will be demonstrating Nimbula Director 1.5 during VMware’s VMworld 2011, taking place the week of August 29 in Las Vegas. For information on how to see Nimbula Director 1.5 in action, email email@example.com.
